How Do I Take Care
Of A Flooded Light?
While Halcyon has spent
years refining its lighting systems to make them as rugged as possible,
sometimes there’s just no stopping Murphy. Perhaps you didn’t
notice that someone dropped a tank on your light cord when you were
loading the boat, causing a break of the water-tight seal. Or you
forgot to replace an O-ring before the dive. Any way it happens,
a flooded light can be cause for great anxiety. We asked Halcyon
Tech Service’s Corey Smith to put together a list of instructions
for how to deal with a flooded light to prep it for return for repair:
- Remove the battery
from the canister and dry it as much as possible.
- Even if the flood
was in salt water, do not rinse off any component with fresh water—it
will only cause further damage.
- Remove the bulb and
gently towel dry.
- Dry the underside
of the lid.
- With the 10w HID,
remove the front glass lens and the bulb and dry all external
surfaces.
- Dry off the inside
of the canister.
- Do not disassemble
the unit other than the bulb removal.
- Keep the battery separate
from the rest of the components—specifically with saltwater
damage, do not put a previously-flooded battery into the canister
and latch the lid.
Return all components
(including charger) to your Halcyon dealer for repair. If you do
not have a local dealer, you can contact Halcyon's tech
services department directly via email for instructions on returning
the light to the factory.
