What's the difference between the Explorer and Evolve Wing?

Explorer
The proven Explorer series wing provides an ideal choice for divers seeking a traditional horseshoe shaped doubles wing. Its rugged, RF-welded nylon/urethane air cell, protected by an exterior ballistic nylon cover, offers the utmost in performance and reliability. The union of these two materials produces a very supple wing with excellent abrasion resistance for the outside shell and excellent puncture protection for the interior bladder. Halcyon wings offer lower drag in the water than with that are similarly-shaped, but built with stiffer materials. The Explorer wing still leads the industry in exploration-proven design features:
  • Stainless steel grommets set in re-enforced central spine webbing
  • Protected access zipper
  • Internal zipper guard flap
  • Hidden water drains
  • Strain relief/flex limiter at corrugated hose elbow

The Explorer series wings are available in 40 and 55 lbs lift capacities for optimal performance when matched with the appropriate cylinders.

Evolve
The Evolve wing is based on the successful circular air cell popularized by Halcyon with our Pioneer and Eclipse designs. The Evolve’s shape is the culmination of three years of testing the various design iterations of a circular air cell. The Evolve features the same proven materials, construction, and highly-prized features available in the Explorer MC systems. This wing is intended for doubles divers with the skill and ability to adequately manage the different buoyancy and trim performance. In addition to eliminating the potential for gas trapping on one side of the air cell, the circular design provides trim-enhancing lift at the base of the cylinders during the dive. In horizontal trim, the Evolve presents a lower profile in the water through even distribution of the lift gas within the air cell.

The benefits include:

  • Enhanced stability through 360 degrees
  • Enhanced buoyancy control; gas can be dumped from any orientation
  • Enhanced trim control both underwater and at the surface
  • Lower profile - even with larger lift capacities
  • Central, protected zipper for air cell access; zipper is not exposed to incidental wear in a cave or wreck environment

The Evolve series wings are available in 40 and 60 lbs lift capacities for optimal performance when matched with the appropriate cylinders
