Light output generates energy, which is discharged in the form of heat. This heat is most intense near the bulb. Therefore, materials near the lamp must be able to withstand high temperatures. A quick evaluation of other lights in the industry will reveal the obvious signs of melting that occur at the bulb and socket interface. Therefore, Halcyon chose an expensive material known as PEEK (Poly Ether Ether Ketone). PEEK maintains a very high temperature range (melting temperature of 644 degrees Fahrenheit), insulating the socket against the damage of high temperatures found near the HID bulb.
