Tank-mounted Trim Weight Kit

Halcyon Trim WeightsMore than half of all diving fatalities occur at the surface. Sadly, most divers believe that jacket-style BCs provide proper surface floatation when, in fact, a divers surface position principally relates to their weight distribution. A nearly empty aluminum cylinder will usually float an unconscious diver face-down regardless of the BC worn. However, the Halcyon Trim Weighting Kit promotes heads-up surface airway protection by counteracting the positive tendency of buoyant cylinders.

  • Shifting weight from a diver's waist toward their center, such as with a stainless Halcyon Backplate or trim weight system, facilitates horizontal diver trim and reduces drag
  • Up to five pounds of weight can be attached to your tank with each streamlined trim weight pocket

V-WeightExplorers have utilized this unique weighting system for years, yet the inconvenient nature of its construction has made it all but unavailable in the dive community. Now available from Halcyon, this integrated weight system allows double tank divers to reduce the need for bulky hip weights. The V-Weight mounts between manifolded cylinders to provide precise weighting, allowing you to carry the minimum removable weight to facilitate a swimming ascent.

Yet another tool that allows you to get weight off your weight belt, the Halcyon Weighted Single Tank Adapter provides six pounds of non-releasable ballast between you and your single cylinder rig.

  • Stainless steel adapter allows divers to secure single tank wings like the Halcyon Eclipse to conventional backplates
  • Low-profile standard Single Tank Adapter is ideal for travel, when luggage space is at a premium
  • Optional coated 6 lb (2.7 kg) weight can be removed when less ballast is required

Prior to the introduction of aluminum dive cylinders, all dive tanks were made out of steel. In the early seventies the buoyant aluminum tank was promoted as an "advance in safety," in that it would not "corrode, rust and break through." Unfortunately, empty buoyant cylinders act essentially as an outrigger on the back of the diver, positioning the nose and mouth of the unconscious or obtunded diver under the water. In such a case, a medical or dive accident rapidly converts into a dive fatality. Since 25 to 50% of dive fatalities occur at the surface, improved airway protection can play a significant role in reducing sport diving fatalities.
